Chicks Moving Day

Today was the day! Chicks big move. We put all 26 chicks into a crate so we could move the shed outside to the site I'd prepped a few days ago. The crate was a bit tight but we made it work.

My handsome man and I carried the shed out of our basement shop all the way to the site. This was definetily  challenging!! I am one of those people that gets the giggles at the worst times, I couldn't stop giggling. Sooo we may have had to set it down and few dozen times before getting there. But the two of us did it, I'm  sure I'll be feeling it tomorrow. The shed fit perfectly with only a few adjustments to the pallets and shed floor. Voila! It was in!

It doesn't look too shabby either. Once I plant some flowers and hang my diy window boxes it should be a very cute coop and bunny run. This week I'll start working on the run that I'll fence off the back in the brush. There is a great space behind for the chickens as well as the ducks when they move in. Streams, stumps, lots of green space. We will fence it and put the proper safeguards and netting above to protect them from preditors. I plan to also build a duck coop off the back of the bunnies run. So lots to share this month.

Once the shed was in place we ran an extension cord to hook up the heat lamp to give them a little warm as they are used to our indoor temperature. I then set it up their food and water and roosting area.

Then it was time to move them in...

They couldn't wait to get out of the crate and back to their coop. They are all settled in and we are very excited to have them outside!!

I'll post more next week when I get more of this project complete.
